Intriguing, but I feel that most of the efficiency problems it tries to overcome can be mostly remedied by key-based SSH access. Can anyone comment on this?

It's solving a completely different problem. In fact it doesn't change SSH's authentication at all, so you'd still use your existing ssh key.
