Except that they generally rely on the charity of public institutions and funding to do their research for them, so…
Except that most of the research part gets done by public universities. They just do the approval studies
Private doesn't beat public "massively" but probably comes out around 2:1. I'd say that's "solidly" but certainly not all the way to "massively". Further, that's a lot of public money, and there are plenty of private drugs that came out of that money.

Idea, meet execution.

15-30% of pharma costs is marketing.
Doctors and the sick have to find out about your drug somehow.
Doctors can follow industry news and inform patients.
Now imagine your business had to fully rely on this strategy to reach its market.
I'm fine with businesses dealing in human rights having a few more hoops to jump through.
