If the author didn't think it was clickbait, then they wouldn't have apologised for doing it.

I only apologized because some people love to shout "clickbait" at any headline that has anything sensational about it, regardless of truth or merit.

In this case it is entirely true, but some people would inevitably spend a bunch of time in comments arguing over whether or not the headline was clickbait, so I thought I'd just nip that conversation in the bud.

Seems like people object to "sensational" titles (aka clickbait) regardless of the article contents.

Perhaps it's something to do with treating your readers disrespectfully? ;)

Apparently adding a ;) doesn't convey my intent that well... It's hard to convey any sense of sarcasm in written fora.
