All the anecdotal indications is that polyphasic sleep is simply acquiring significant deep sleep debt. That is: polyphasic sleep is not sustainable over a multi year period. Humans can still do it while sailing in an ocean, on space ships and similar extreme locations. However a significant relapse then follows in more "normal" places. I'd love to see if someone was able to be productive for 3+ years on polyphasic sleep. Personally I relapsed after a few months - maybe I never truly transitioned. |
