I had a feeling they’d announce MacBook Pro in black because that black keyboard stood out so much in all the existing colors that it was shocking they had even released it as such. But making it exclusively a Max and Ultra option is just such an obvious money grabbing attempt milking the elitist cult around Apple… This whole event is grasping at straws. Wonder how the market feels about it tomorrow.

EDIT: oh wow, that was it. A new 10% faster processor and a new MacBook color. And the whole event for that… bizzare.

Yes, but if it was just that there would be no reason to keep it only for the more expensive SKUs. Except it is not just that. Cannot to have to fix some idiot "black" Mac. Right now, the major idiots tell me they got pro Mac to describe their MacBook Pro. I always get confused and always need to clarify, because looking at those people it never make sense that they would have gotten an actual Mac Pro. It is always a stupid entry level MacBook Pro (not that they need much more generally) but that gives you the vibe of the average Mac buyer, no matter what some want to believe here.

I think at this point you can bet about 80% of Macs sold are about a fashion/social status statement than any technological choice.

It’s not just a color option because they reserve it for the most expensive 16” versions. Which is what I was referring to.

Black is available on any pro or max chip model.

Gating it is still a bit silly, but the gating is not as bad as you think. The base M3 pro is $400 more than the base M3.
