Because it's a good name, and names are brands, not some legal commitment to anyone's intepretation of what the company does.

Apple don't sell produce, Tesla have nothing to do with the Serbian-American inventor, Amazon aren't related to the river, and the Walt Disney company kept his name after he died.

Not very convincing because all your examples are nouns, when OP was taking issue with an adjective.
Here's some examples with bad adjectives:

Best Buy is rarely even close to the best price.

Under armor makes a lot of outerware, and thier underwear is not designed specifically for armor.

Yum brands doesn't have very good properties.

Western Union is a global bank, it neither limited to the west nor meaningfully related to union.
