This, really. Sometimes, when reading math papers, you find that they end up being very hand-wavy with the notation, e.g. with subscripting, because "it's understood". But without extensive training in mathematics, a lot of it is not understood. Programmers will use languages with a lot of syntactic sugar, and without knowing the language, code can be pretty difficult to understand when it is used. But even then, you can't be sloppy, because computers are so damn literal. |
