"BLM Mustangs" are highly valued by the horse people I know; thin bloodlines are being refreshed and herds with behavioral issues being shown how real horses act.

I recall, when I was a kid, people worried that the program would spread diseases and pollute lines with "sickly midget mongrel horses."

To my eye the public maintenance of wild horse herds and sharing out those robust genetics with the public is an excellent use of Federal resources and a truly great example of how a common good can be enhanced by government action. Tragic there aren't many programs that work as well.
