Color me surprised. I thought seafood is consumed five times more. A salmon fillet usual weight more than 2 pounds, so we only eat 3 times a year on average?

"average American" is doing a lot of lifting there.

Quick question, does half of the US population (~160 million, say) even eat salmon in a year?

The distribution of consumption might tell a tale here, there's a good chance a small percentage are eating a lot of salmon.

Individual serving size is closer to four to six ounces so wild extrapolation is once a month for salmon, twice a month for shrimp. I’m at zero for both of those recently so someone else makes up for me. :) I’ve switched to sardines.
A single serving of salmon fillet is only 3-4 ounces, not a pound.
3 lbs a year works out to 6-12 meals, depending on how big of a piece of fish you like to eat.

But still I agree, I'm definitely doing more than my share in contributing to those numbers.

A salmon fillet, at least for my family, usually feeds 3-5. Let’s say 4. So it would be 12 times a year.
maybe my family love to eat fish, a fillet is not enough for my family of four. We usually prepare one and a half fillet for a meal
