…with the readability of Perl. Surely a joke.

I have written quite a lot of Perl code in my life. It was obvious to me what it did as I wrote it, but I have real problems understanding it/reading it now.

I suspect this was meant tongue-in-cheek given that Ruby is known to be a low-performance language and Perl code used to be compared to 'line noise' - think back to the times of analogue phone lines and modems which sometimes introduced noise into the data.
