All social networks are based on our capacity to trust others. We trust social networks like facebook and foursquare not to abuse us with unwanted ads and we trust others to treat us and our information with respect. This "Girls around me" article is coming from a place of extreme fear. The users of this app are most likely to be introverted young men rather than serial killers and rapists. It's impossible to hurt someone with an app so linking the existence of any app with the dangers of stalking, rape and murder seems to be fear mongering. |
