How do people qualitatively measure their developer experience?

Is anyone taking surveys specifically designed for developer teams to help organizations understand and improve their developer experience? What tools do that?

That's more around application performance. How do people actually get the perspective of their developers at scale in large engineering organizations
No. DORA metrics are not related to application performance.
But also not directly to developer's experience. Try the SPACE framework [1] from the same people, Nicole Forsgren et al. It is more of a survey than measurable objective metrics, and the problem is with the implementation, like any other survey- build good questions, operating the survey analysis and results etc.

There some comercial tools available, for example getdx [2]

Is “checking how many items your company ticks on the Joel test a valid answer”

Maybe a high score correlates with a good developer experience?

Otherwise it’s just asking a bunch of survey questions about developers feeling of job quality?

An idea: an arena, where developers "fight" against each other by solving leet code or similar tasks and they are scored and rated using something similar to the ELO rating system in chess.
