Let's also note that Google now offers ChromeOS Flex[1], which is a version of ChromsOS comparable to Debian "old stable". I have ChromeOS Flex running on two older (but excellent) Chromebooks used by family. The hardware is good; the chipset was obsoleted by Intel.
