For the record, I don't find it meaningless when someone wishes me happy birthday on facebook (or using any other medium). For me, saying the actual words "Happy Birthday" is my preferred method of being wished a happy birthday... You may want to re-word the first line of your post.

I don't even care if people say it in person when FB reminded them. The only ones that count is from people that remembered it on their own!
