Most CEO's are ~worthless at the "guidance and vision" stuff.

But for an organization to operate in human society, with human customers and employees, having some sort of "socially savvy alpha male" is very imported, and very often underrated.

Most software engineers are crap at software, let alone engineering.

Most cooks are really not great at cooking.

I could go on.

The fact that they are worthless on that, for whatever reason (and often they are chosen because they are not great at it) isn't really a statement to the low utility of the role.
