Weighing privacy and safety is so important but it seems like both sides are not careful with nuance. My understanding is that a non-profit / charity can generate revenue as long as it stays within the organization, feeding back into the cause; so it seems a little disingenuous when this article paints it as profit. Personally, I hope to see advances that can help balance crucially important privacy protection and the safety of children and prevention of the spread of abuse material; for example fully homomorphic encryption or on device scanning.
