Rice cookers. Damned clever. I wish toasters worked on a similar concept.

They used to make damned clever toasters, like the Sunbeam Automatic toaster... it was freaking amazing. My dad had one with sales display board, etc... he was super proud of it. Here's a nice video about them.[1]

The obvious solution for toasters is a built in smoke detector that turns the toaster off at the first sign of smoke. I'm surprised no one make them.

My last workplace banned toasters from the office kitchens because they would set off the smoke alarms and the fire brigade would be called.

The toaster equivalent to a rice cooker is probably an air fryer.
