I wonder if introversion/extroversion are umbrella terms for a wide range of meshing cognitive and personality traits. For instance, we all default to a particular attentional style. To use the actor Woody Allen as an example, he has a classic narrow-internal attentional style (introspective, perhaps slightly neurotic) which suggests he's an introvert, yet these traits works for him socially on many levels.
