>If you are concerned about environmental impact of your travels, then fewer long-distance flying would have a much much bigger effect than futzing with clothes packed or not. Since most readers here are probably American, I wonder what the difference in CO2 is between 1) flying to Japan and spending 2-3 weeks there, and riding some trains while you're there, and 2) staying in the US and driving your 6000-lb SUV across the country to someplace for your vacation, or 3) staying at home, driving your SUV around town as usual, and keeping your 6000-square-foot house heated or cooled that whole time. I'm not so sure flying intercontinentally is really that bad compared to even the regular daily CO2 output of most Americans. |
