About a dozen years ago, folks estimated that G made about $100M/day from AdWords. That number has probably kept pace with inflation, but even if it hasn’t, they’re committing at most about a fifth of day’s income, per year, or 1/1500th of their annual income. I, too, would like to receive good press for donating less than 0.06% of my income! Tithing comes to mind. If they wanted to put any force and meaning behind those words, they’d just hire Gebru on as a consultant and then I wouldn’t even care about whether they were buying friendly research articles at $2M each. |
