This still feels like it's missing the point most doomer technologists do even though it calls them out for it -- The world will be changed by AI, just like the internet, and, just like the internet, it will be full of problems, but problems we mostly can't envision or see. The 'trump card' for all the AI negativity is education. Think of the 590 million Indian kids that live in poverty, for example. If they can get access to a computer and the internet, they will have access to on demand 24/7 first class education. They can even ask questions like they could of a real teacher. The boon to human productivity and possibility for less suffering in our Capitalist earth can't possibly be outweighed by some boogey-man negatives which will probably never materialize anyway. |
