I’m always a little floored when I see two older people debate something- and although both undoubtedly have smart phones, no one bothers to consult the oracle (google).
And then to consider that while watching her ask her google assistant to turn off her lights. I think whenever you have someone like this, an 81 year old learn something like how to code, you’re almost certainly dealing with someone who is highly passionate, highly motivated, and who isn’t afraid of risks, new things, or change. It’s not the prevailing view in our industry, but I suspect that between the average 20 year old and average 55 year old recent boot code graduate, the simple fact that they chose to pursue it at that age tells you a great deal about who that person is. I’m reminded of that one economist who won the Nobel piece prize on signals, where he essentially showed that a degree essentially acts as a signal- this person completed college, where you can infer something that is likely true from that- to navigate an otherwise absence of information. And I don’t mean that to offend anyone who didn’t complete a college degree I myself dropped out while just one class away (PE) from a finance degree. I’m sure a lot can be said about what signal that sends. |
