It did not. Does the android version sit on the Lock Screen too? From my brief research it also appears to have less freedom with design, but I might just have not found a good example of a custom one.

I believe the reason for this difference might be the differences in how iOS manages push notifications, which are way more restricted as background processes than Android.

I'm not sure. They're definitely different, but share some common elements.

Android push notifications are quite restricted as well.
