There's nothing wrong with Debian, if you know how to set up Debian.
But if was easy to set up Debian and get a working desktop without a fair degree of knowledge and expertise, then Ubuntu would never have happened. And yet, it did and it's big and has at least twice as many users as Debian itself... Plus all those on Mint etc.
