Advice on making something go viral

My team and I are developing a product that we think potentially could go viral If more people knew about it. But we don't know where to start doing the marketing, especially with a tight budget as ours. Regarding your experience, what was the most effective thing that you did to achieve word of mouth for your products on an early stage? Thank you!

Launch it in a targeted niche as cheap as you can. If it doesn't spread it's probably not viral.

The viral nature of products is when they can tap into the network of the userbase to drive further adoption, not by an increase in marketing.
