Assuming you're a dev and not a "business person," you can still run it and show it to a recruiter even if you don't make money off it. I've shown websites and projects that don't make any money during interviews.

They’re saying that $100/mo out of pocket is unsustainable to keep it live. If they can at least offset the hosting cost they’ll leave it up and be able to show a recruiter. Otherwise they will have to only show pics and source code.
