The people that commit these opportunistic crimes is statistically small. You can't make valid conclusions either way. "feels true" is just as good as any conclusion. People that make shoplifting their career will continue to do what they know. No bail makes it so much easier, at some point it just doesn't matter if they get caught. The issue is that we want all criminals prosecuted to the max but we don't want to pay to house them. This has caused overcrowded jails. Even now the prison system is so full that the governor has to figure out how to fix it. Imagine, if everyone has to post bail. It's not going to work. |
