The word loi (law) is indeed used in french controls engineering, not only for planes. See https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loi_de_commande_de_vol

Cannot say if it is good or bad to be honest, I believe Airbus themselves decided on the English term law to translate the french term.
