Platforms like Magicbricks and Nobroker charge you for owner contacts?

It's a loss for both owners and tenants. What if we had an open-source site, managed by the community(Bangaloreans can do this I think) – that's completely free and seamlessly connect owners and tenants?

Looking for feedback if it's a good idea? or what are the negatives?

uh,how will you make money?

i am all for open source but who will pay for the server costs and marketting? if you are doing this as a hobby, sure but costs add up pretty quickly.

Then you have the problem of verifying people. landlords and tenants. they both lie in forms, photos and such. how will you "verify" that the 2BHK apartment is really as they say and what photos they say? what if a tenant uses your app/website and gets fucked over somehow, like a bad neighbourhood or a bad landlord or bad terms of rent, how will you intervene because you have to at some point?

Ads(like on the blank space on the page or owner paying to show their house on the top) and donations is what I thought for the server costs, but you are right marketing is an issue Want to solve the problem of paying to get the owner's number which am facing myself, It's too much of work to be just an hobby project

Initial plan is to not verify anything, the issue getting solved here is the tenant can see the photos of the house, if they like it they can get the owner's number without paying

After this it's between the owner and the tenant, the tenant should go and do a propery visit before taking the flat

the main concern is will people use it? As for that owner/broker needs to put houses there

Will the owner be okay with sharing their contact like this. One way I thought of was that owner can decide whether he wish to share his number directly or not. If not the tenant will get a form like veg/non-veg, occupation and other stuff. According to which the owner can decide with whom he wants to share his number. (But it might be again difficult for the owner to decide and as its open might get too many requests)

Who will pay for the operational costs?
Ads and donations(mainly), just like other open source project operates

operation cost can be managed, but the cost for getting people to the platform might be an issue, have to figure out
