The concept of line-worker software engineers seems like the problem in this parable. People need the ability to have some small amount of override and the ability to make decisions without risking their jobs, even if it's somewhat boxed to their experience level. Leaving everything up to management only is a way to ensure that little gets done and no one's happy doing it. |
