Perhaps a silly question: If there were previously no profits does that mean they had previously paid no taxes and now will?

They don't pay corporate income taxes without a profit but they still pay plenty of tax:

1. Sales Taxes 2. Payroll Taxes 3. Property Taxes etc

You can roll losses forward for 3 years I think. So they could not pay any taxes for the next 3 years depending on how much they make in profit. It is why Amazon wasn’t paying any taxes for a few years after they decided to start taking profits.
