@wredue, the trick is to dictate the direction of communications and mute after work comms. Also, if they make a real effort to reach out to you, make sure you are absolutely unavailable 90% of that time. "Hi uh, can you help us fix X problem", "unfortunately, I'm an hour away from home and don't have my laptop. I will be back around 10:00pm, if you still need help please reach out."
User “So since about 8 this morning…”
You “Wait. You knew about this 8 hours ago and only NOW you’re telling us about it, and this needs solving today?”
7 minutes later
You “hey. Found the problem, but unfortunately the fix needs follow up. Can you <perform rest of fix>”
45 minutes later
You “It seems like you’re away. Can you ping me someone else that can do this real quick”
12 hours later
User “hey. Sorry. Thanks, we actually figured it out and we didn’t need to rerun, it turns out.”
