Beauty isn't only shaped by evolution. It is shaped by culture as well. Evolution has given leeway to the human interpretation of attraction through imprinting. This leaves a lot of variety among cultures on "what is beautiful". As stated before, outside of this variety, there are several characteristics and attributes of beauty that are universal and do not vary drastically across cultures. It is a combination of these two things that defines what is beautiful for a person. One thing that you're wrong about is that it's a choice or a truth. A human cannot reinterpret or redefine what he or she thinks to be beautiful. Much of this definition is created by genetics and cultural imprinting. |
