Exploring Unique Use Cases for Quadcopter Drones in Constrained Spaces
1 points by on2k17nm 1072 days ago
Hello Hacker News community,

I'm fascinated by the versatility and potential of quadcopter drones, particularly in unconventional scenarios. Today, I'd like to discuss and gather insights on unique use cases for drones in very, very constrained spaces (flying within few cms/mm accuracy)

As quadcopters continue to evolve in terms of size, maneuverability, and advanced capabilities, it's becoming increasingly possible to navigate them through tight and intricate environments. These constrained spaces could include narrow corridors, dense forests, confined industrial areas, or any other challenging setting where traditional methods are limited.

Some potential questions to kick-start the discussion:

Have you come across any innovative applications of quadcopter drones in highly confined spaces? Are there any industries or specific use cases where drones could bring significant benefits in such scenarios? What technical advancements or adaptations would be necessary to optimize drones for these constrained spaces? Are there any existing research, projects, or initiatives focused on addressing this particular niche? I'm excited to hear your thoughts, experiences, and ideas on this topic. Let's explore the uncharted possibilities for quadcopter drones in extremely confined spaces!

Looking forward to engaging in a vibrant discussion with the Hacker News community.

Thank you!

One usecase that I found is in sewer inspection.

Inspectors at Suez RV Osis are using the Elios 2 indoor drone to get full coverage in its sewer inspections. More details here - https://www.flyability.com/casestudies/suez-rv-osis-drone-se...

Although, I'm not sure how practical it is in real life.

I'm looking for some real life scenarios where there might be some pressing need for such drone based usecases.
