Scraping is a bit of a legal gray area though. If you were to go scrape 300 billion words from the Internet, you probably would be committing a crime somewhere. Especially if you then reproduced some of those words verbatim for paying customers as ChatGPT does... I am sure OpenAI thought all this through, so I can only assume they said "fuck it let's pull an Uber and do this anyway." We are in for lots of interesting legal headlines |
