“Don’t mistake technical knowledge for intelligence (don’t be an asshole)”

Pretty obvious to state, but this is generally a good thing to live by in and out of the office.

When thinking about the technical and non-technical people I've worked with, ignoring technical prowess, it feels to me like the technical people had slightly higher general intelligence on average. Certainly the upper bound for what I perceive as general intelligence was far higher for the technical people. Of course, this isn't to say they were universally more intelligent, far from it, I've worked with some extremely sharp business guys. I've just felt a slight correlation in aspects like vocabulary, mental arithmetic, logical reasoning, etc, in favour of the tech people I've worked with.

All of this is qualitative opinion-based anecdata, but it is something I have noticed. Certainly it's no excuse to have an inflated ego about knowing more HTTP status codes than the accounting team.
