I’m pretty sure intelligence in programming does not transfer to other domains. This is someone who wasted years of their life to become a really great programmer. An accomplishment in the world of startups for sure, but with no actual consequence.

The actual consequence of learning programming is money. A material reward that improves quality of life. I’ll also wager that intelligence does transfer to other domains but that’s just MHO.
As far as I know Garry Kasparov is far from living in poverty, with a net worth of 50M+.
Source? I see estimates from 6m to 150. I don’t think anyone really knows, but I expect it’s more like 6, which is somewhere around a good developers nest egg.
