The matrix movie has people "jacked" into a kind of computer world through their brainstem but realistically the system would also have to have connections to the eyes which have the highest bandwidth of the system. Replacing reality with computers this way does not preclude it from being an interesting film but the love scenes would be different. Wouldn't the people in zion have to mount web cams or something on those sockets? People would fight over having the best kind of 300 year old web cams. Oh sure perhaps VR goggles would work well enough that you don't need your eye's gouged out. But in 10 years how will your eye's know what to focus on? Would your 20/20 vision last this way from cradle to grave?

Of all senses to rely on sight can be the most misleading though. Seeing is believing but seeing is deceiving. Think back to a time when you were totally sold on something by a commercial on TV or on youtube. It was so cool, it did exactly what I want it to do. This retail therapy is what I need, man! Then after you get it, its just a stupid gimmick or it helps nothing. The eye's brought you there. Cooking tools or ingredients are a good example. You can't taste test the television ads. Seeing fancy cars and mansions looks like a pretty good motivation for investing in a hit meme like crypto. But sometimes now and then that doesn't work out.

Eyes are good to have. I sometimes use them when driving my car. They are useful for tracking street names for my cerebral navigation system [CNS].

I think I like my ears better though. They are more reliable for me. And the nose is great. I don't think I'll need a corrective nose for a long time. I've worn corrective lenses for over 3 decades.
