I don;t think them looking obnoxious will be a problem. Much more worried about them being stolen right off your face in a public environemnt.

Apple has been making expensive tech worth less to thieves for quite a while.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the hardware could be locked to the user’s eyes, just as iPhones can be locked to the user’s fingerprint or face.
