Twitter was profitable in 2019, but then the VCs force-fed it some more "funding" so that it could "grow".

Reddit has suffered the same sick fate.

It's not enough to be a Fortune 500 company, you have to shoot for #1 on the stock market or die trying. I guess it's more fun to be a billionaire on paper for a while than to have to run a legitimate company.
