All poppies produce opium, but of course in different concentrations.

I guess there's a critical opium threshold the law applies? Or does it just name the forbidden ones?

It is a common misconception that all poppies produce opium.

They do not.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of poppy varieties that produce no morphinan alkaloids.

Morphinan alkaloids become "opium".
