At least part of the difference is that Reddit can be a useful forum for technical troubleshooting of apps / programs. But the dissent in the thread is in reference to it as a social media platform - I think.

Exactly this, it happens to have a long history of questions/answers for most topics, so I pretty much use it as a search engine.

OTOH Reddit as a social media seems like a dumpster fire with a toxic culture, community, and mods. (Not talking about all subs here, I know that many subs are wholesome and inviting)
