Let's be clear that it is a successful model that generates an amount of revenue ~78k per year. It definitely works but the yield is a bit low it seems. It is hard to definitely nail down the amount to hours worked but the money is there. A couple of more similar products would be the way to increase the profits. The issue seems to be with the approach taken to have a single AGPL license. I've heard of other similar businesses that would just use double licensing and would sell copyrighted "parallel copy" of the product to the blue chip customers. This way the company gets a proper license but publicly you still maintain AGPL for the masses. |
