The book gets into that a little bit (at least what I read in the Amazon preview), the gist was it's very Not Great to say "You're an American so you'll do this", but rather to say "American business culture generally expects this", which is more accurate. Despite being American, I've had a boss literally ask me to "read their mind" on something, I'm shocked I outlasted them in the company despite my low rank compared to them. Luckily for me subsequent leadership was more forthright. |
