One interesting thing about the South Pole is that its elevation above sea level is roughly 3000m / 9000':

So things like cooking can be challenging because the boiling point of water is much lower than 100C. Also I've heard of issues with computer/electronics equipment working differently (because of less/thinner air moving through fans).

At this time, typo alert (Atro instead of Astro). Just saying as it might make a difference in search later on
