As an aside, RMS avoids end running like that: if he is ethically opposed to the service he tries to avoid getting someone to do his bidding.

I don’t think it would be about ethically problematic for Knuth it would be more about he would like to know precisely the details

at his age he has to be super conservative about what he spends his time
