The tyranny of the default is real. People on this site are perfectly aware it takes three seconds to change it but the great masses don't even think about it and they are worth the money spend to keep this default.

I’m sure they have internal telemetry that lets them know for sure whose using what.

At normal search, yes miles ahead of bing. Tbh anything is better than bing, brave search with its own index and algorithm in my experience is much better.
For some, maybe, not for me. I switched from Google years back and haven’t noticed an appreciable difference in search quality.
