the criticism of the Alan Turing Insitute's past failure to become a world-leading AI research institution may be fair, I don't know if they really missed an opportunity or not.

however after this, it's a somewhat confusing post if you click the links, because after criticizing the government for not being willing to focus on LLMs, he links to a press release about 100 million pounds being devoted to training LLMs.

it's unclear to me what the objection is to this project, or what is meant by "open source" that is different from a normal publicly funded government research project.

Sorry for not being clear enough. The point is that this £100M is very likely to be spent on the Turing Institute since it seems to suck up all AI funding in the UK. It will therefore likely be wasted.
