There's a part in the Biblical Book of Revelations dealing with prophecies of the end times and coming of the Antichrist that describes the government that will be set up under the Antichrist's rule. The "Mark of the Beast" is a sign or seal that will be placed on peoples' hand or head, and no one will be able to buy or sell goods without that sign.
Throughout history, just about every new technology related to money or identity, from the serial numbers on dollar bills to social security numbers to RFID chips (to of course secret microchips in vaccines,) has been interpreted by fringe Christians as being the Mark of the Beast.
