All it's doing is causing validator nodes to possible rack bandwidth fees. At best categorized as a minor exploit.

until a botnet makes mining unprofitable for huge swaths of the network - effectively turning the nodes offline

Lots of nodes (especially for things like mining), are not freely reachable on a public Internet and make only outgoing connections.

yes - that's why i never made the claim that the entire network was vulnerable to the attack. you are correct :thumbsup:
